Mina Al-Ahmadi Refinery has expanded its refining capacity to 346,000 bpd across 39 upgraded units, enabling it to meet local demand for low-sulfur fuels and adapt swiftly to market changes.
Mina Al-Ahmadi Refinery (MAA) exemplifies pioneering innovation and continuous advancement in petroleum Refining.
Established in 1949 with an initial capacity of 25,000 barrels per day (bpd) to meet local fuel demands, MAA spans to about 10.5 square kilometers along the seashore.
The Refinery underwent significant modernization phases in 1984 and 1986 , incorporating state-of-the-art technologies.
In 2022, the Kuwait National Petroleum Company (KNPC) launched the Clean Fuels Project (CFP), marking a new era for MAA. This initiative upgraded MAA to produce high-quality, eco-friendly petroleum products meeting stringent international standards, such as Euro-5, which features low levels of sulfur, nitrogen oxides, metals, and other pollutants. The Refinery now boasts enhanced energy efficiency, reliability, and safety, reducing operational interruptions and unscheduled shutdowns, thereby optimizing cost-effectiveness and competitiveness.
With its upgraded and newly established units, totaling 39, MAA has increased its Refining capacity to 346,000 bpd.
This expansion enables MAA to meet local demands for low-sulfur gasoline, kerosene, bitumen, and LPG, while providing high flexibility and rapid response to customer requirements and international market changes.
